NOH: SEIOH-BOH
At a spring festival at court in ancient China a Woman presents the Emperor with a branch of peach blossoms. She reveals that she is the Queen Mother of the West and later appears from the heavens in all her glory to give the Emperor peaches of immortality from her garden and to dance in celebration of his reign. |
KYOGEN: OBA GA SAKE
A young man approaches his wineshops owning aunt asking to taste her wares. When she refuses his request he pretends to be a demon and frightens her into letting him into her warehouse. As he gets more and more drunk he is unable to control the mask he is wearing and, when she realizes she has been tricked, the aunt angrily chases her nephew away. |
NOH: YOROBOSHI
A young man gone blind after being falsely accused and driven away from home is know as the Priest of the Faltering Tread, or Yoroboshi, for his religious faith at Shitennoji Temple in Osaka where he supports himself by begging. His father, offering alms in remorse for what has happened, recognizes his son and the two are reunited. |
