Noh: OMINAMESHI
A Priest meets an Old Man and on asking questions about yellow valerian, ominameshi, growing on a grave site, learns the story of an ill-fated couple. Later the spirits of the man and wife appear and the man expresses his remorse for the misunderstanding that led to his wife’s suicide and to his also taking his life. |
Kyoden: SHIMIZU
The Master forces his servant, Taro Kaja, to fetch tea water from a spring called shimizu, or pure water. The order has unexpected consequences when Taro Kaja decides to pretend the special pail he was given was taken from him by a demon…. |
Noh: HANJO
A Courtier traveling in the east lands forms a relationship with a girl working at an inn. When he left he gave her a fan as a keepsake. Unable to forget her love, the young woman, whom the Courtier affectionately called “Lady Han”, leaves her employment and wanders in distraction. Finally the two are reunited in the capital, the fan each keeps a sign of their continuing love. |
