NOH: HOKA-SOH
Two brothers avenge their father’s death by disguising themselves as hoka-soh, priests who spread the doctrine through storytelling and dance. They meet their father’s murderer and entertain him so that he lets down his guard and they are able to accomplish their mission. |
KYOGEN: KINTOZAEMON
A mountain bandit named Kintozaemon meets his match in a Woman he frightens, thinking to steal the bag she carries. Though she runs off at first, she returns and grabs his weapon while he is going through her things. She threatens him with it, and the outcome is not at all as he expected…. |
NOH: KUROZUKA
Mountain ascetics take refuge at an Old Woman’s hut on Adachi Plain when nightfall catches them without lodging. The priests accept her hospitality but when she goes to the mountain for firewood warning them not to look in her chamber, their servant disobeys. Finding the room full of corpses they want to flee, but are then confronted by the Demon of the plain. They overcome her through their religious powers. |
