| Noh: HIMURO "The Icehouse" Court Officials visit Mt. Himuro where they meet the guardian of the icehouse there. An Old Man tells them how, in the summer, ice is taken as a tribute to the Emperor. Later, a Heavenly Maiden dances and the God of Himuro presents ice to the Officials to take back to the capital, symbolizing the harmony of nature, the gods, and humankind. |
| Kyogen: NEONGYOKU The Master is intrigued by the sound of the voice of his servant, Taro Kaja, when he hears him singing by chance. But when the Master asks Taro Kaja to sing for him Taro Kaja sets conditions one after the other: first demanding sake, then insisting he cannot sing unless he is lying down with his head on his wife knees, so the Master offers his knees instead. One thing leads to another, and finally the Master finally scolds Taro Kaja for his antics. |
| Noh: YUGAO A Priest visiting the Gojo area meets a Woman who reveals that she is the spirit of Yugao, loved by both the courtier To No Chujo and Prince Genji and asks for his intercession on her behalf. She later appears in her true form and dances, praising the Sutras which allow even a woman such as herself to be freed from attachments and find enlightenment. |
