| NOH: TADANORI A Priest on pilgrimage meets an Old Man at Suma who tells him the tree where they stand marks the grave of warrior-poet Taira no Tadanori. The Old Man asks the Priest to pray there, promises to appear again later, and then disappears. He appears in the Priest's dreams in his true form as the spirit of Tadanori. He acts out his death at the hands of Okabe Rokuyata and his suffering in the afterlife, and explains how he was identified by the poem which was found in his quiver. |

NOH: KOCHO 'The Butterfly' A Priest visiting the capital meets a Young Woman when he is admiring plum blossoms on the grounds of an old palace. She reveals that she is, in fact, the spirit of a butterfly that regrets that she cannot enjoy the plum blossoms because they bloom before she appears. She asks the Priest to pray for her so that she can be freed from this attachment and regret. Later the butterfly appears in the Priest's dreams. She dances, expressing her joy that she is now able to attain enlightenment.
