Noh: HOJOGAWA A Priest on pilgrimage meets two men at Yawata Shrine
on Mt. Otoko. One man is carrying a pail with fish in it. When the
Priest asks him why he takes their life, he replies that he is, in fact,
going to release the fish in the Hojo River in a ceremony celebrating
life. After releasing the fish he reveals that he is the god Takeuji. He
appears later in his true form and dances, reciting poems celebrating
the beauty of nature throughout the year. |
Kyogen: NIKU JUHACHI 2918 A Man who wants to marry goes to Kiyomizu
Temple to pray to Kannon for a wife. He then has a dream that he will
meet his mate near the Western Gate. He finds a woman there, her robe
pulled up shyly to cover her face. When he asks her where she lives she
answers in riddles including the numbers 2-9. He decides the total, 18,
must be her house and finds her there when he calls. He leads her away
happily but has a surprise when she finally uncovers her face... |
Noh: MII-DERA Her son has disappeared so a Mother goes to Kiyomizu
Temple to ask Kannon for a dream oracle about his whereabouts. She then
has a dream in which she is told to go to Mii-dera to find her son. The
Mother arrives at the temple on the night of the full moon when a group
of priests is there moonviewing. She has become deranged because of her
worry for her son and rings the temple bell distractedly. The priests
are going to scold her, but then realize that she is the mother of a
young boy they have been taking care of and quickly reunite mother and son.
