| Noh: OMINA-MESHI Stopping to admire yellow Omina-meshi, one of the Seven Autumn Herbs celebrated in the earliest poetic anthologies, a Traveling Priest is greeted by an Old Man who introduces himself as the guardian of the flowers. He shows the Priest the graves of a man and his wife which are nearby, and then disappears. Later, he appears in his true form as Yorikaze, who describes the grief he still feels at his wife's suicide due to a misunderstanding which led Yorikaze to take his own life also. |
| Kyogen: NARUKO YARUKO What should the wooden clappers used in rice fields to chase away the birds be called? One Man says 'naruko', another Man says 'yaruko'. The Tea Shop Owner they ask to settle the dispute is more interested in the swords they bet on being right than in what the actual answer might be.... |
Noh: FUJI-DAIKO A drum player named Asama is called to court to play for the Emperor and hearing this, another drummer named Fuji goes, too. The resentful Asama kills his rival, Fuji. Fuji's Wife comes to the capital after having a strange dream. She dons her husband's robe and hat which she is given as keepsakes and then is possessed by Fuji's spirit. At first the spirit is resentful, but then his anger turns to praise and blessings for the Emperor's reign.
